5 Books I Loved In 2023

As an avid reader, I enjoy immersing myself in a diverse selection of books. Throughout 2023, I encountered some exceptional reads, along with a few that fell short of my expectations. Despite not being captivated by every book I picked up, there were several that I absolutely loved.

Here’s a look at 5 books (in no particular order) that I enjoyed most.

The book intertwines a fascinating narrative with enthralling insights into the world of chemistry. It engulfs you in the character of Elizabeth Zott and her life struggles during a time when society expected women to remain in the home and kitchen.

Why I Loved It…

I love a novel with a strong female character. Elizabeth Zott, the main character in the book can be described as a true trailblazer. I found her intelligence, determination, and resilience to be inspiring and motivating. I highly recommend this fantastic read!

“The Color of Law: A Forgotten History of How Our Government Segregated America” by Richard Rothstein provides an in-depth exploration of how governmental policies have contributed to segregation in America. The book discusses the impact of these policies on communities throughout time and the impact they continue to have in present day society.

Why I Loved It…

I learned so many things that I was unaware of prior to reading this book. Learning the disturbing impact of our government on our segregated communities throughout history has been educational and eye-opening to say the least. I think it is important to continue to educate ourselves and this book does that! If you’re looking to learn more and how you can make a difference, give this a read!

“The Subtle Art of Not Giving a #@%!” by Mark Manson

“The Subtle Art of Not Giving a Fuck” is a bestselling self-help book by Mark Manson. Unlike your usual self-help book, Mark Manson challenges the traditional way of positive thinking. He advocates for you to start focusing on what truly matters and not sweating the little stuff in life. The straightforward approach the book provides motivates you to take another look at your life and approach to the way you handle things.

Why I Loved It…

This book was exactly what I needed at a time in my life when I was stressing over things that I perceived to be important. I love his perspective on life and the direction he sends your mind. If you’re looking for something outside the realm of the conventional self-help book, look no further!

“A Flicker in the Dark” by Stacy Willingham

“A Flicker in the Dark” by Stacy Willingham is a thriller that grips your attention from the very first page. The characters and storytelling throughout this fictional novel explore the dark secrets of a small Louisiana town. In this suspenseful thriller, you follow the character of Chloe Davis as she deals with the aftermath of a traumatic childhood that continues to haunt her. With a past consisting of six missing teenage girls and more on the horizon, as a reader you are find yourself questioning Chloe Davis and everyone that surrounds her.

Why I Loved It…

I love a book that keeps me on the edge of my seat! Stacy Williamgham does an excellent job crafting her characters and keeping you guessing. Right when I thought I had figured everything out, a plot twist would slap me right in the face, and I would be right back to guessing. It was a quick, easy read that kept me engaged throughout. If you like suspenseful thrillers, check this one out!

“In a Holidaze” by Christina Lauren

In a Holidaze by Christina Lauren is a delightful romantic comedy. The novel follows Maelyn Jones as she gets a chance to relive her annual Christmas cabin trip as part of her journey to self-discovery. This book is The Butterfly Effect meets Groundhog Day meets Holidate. Its charming storyline and backdrop creates the perfect heartwarming holiday read.

Why I Loved It…

I always like to end my year with a light, happy read. This novel was the perfect choice. I loved the plot twist on this new-age romantic comedy. Not only was it filled with heartwarming moments, but laugh-out-loud moments by the well-crafted charaters. It’s the perfect rom-com on paper!
