Halloween Caramel Apples

Halloween is a little over a week away and I have been counting down the days until I am able devour all of my favorite sweet Halloween treats! Whether it’s prepackaged chocolate or homemade Hocus Pocus Brownies – I love it all!

A favorite fall treat that I look forward to each year are candy and caramel apples! Nothing says fall like embracing the apple picking season and creating delicious apple recipes.🍎 This year I decided to combine my love for caramel apples with my love for sweet Halloween treats to create Halloween Caramel Apples!

Check out my quick and easy recipe below, and you will be creating and enjoying spooky caramel apples in no time!👻🕸

Ingredients

  • Apples – You can use any type of apple. I personally prefer Honey Crisp.
  • Caramel – Store-bought caramel works best. For this particular post I used (Kraft Caramels).
  • Heavy Cream – Any heavy cream will work.
  • Toppings – Toppings are optional and based on personal preference.
  • Popsicle Sticks – popsicle sticks are easiest to find but you can use any type of stick available.

How to Make Caramel Apples

Step 1: Prepare apples by cleaning and drying each apple thoroughly. After apples have been cleaned and dried, insert popsicle stick into each apple. Make sure sticks are placed into core so that apple will not fall off. (I prefer to use Rebel Green Fruit & Veggie Cleaner to prepare apples.)

Step 2: Prepare baking sheet or plate by lining with parchment paper. After covering parchment paper with non-stick cooking spray, place baking sheet in refrigerator in preparation of caramel apple placement. (For this particular post I used a disposable pumpkin plate.)

Step 3: Create caramel dip by placing caramels in a microwave safe bowl. I prefer to use a bowl that holds 6 cups. Place approximately 5 cups of caramel in bowl and add 1/2 cup of heavy cream. Melt caramels in microwave in 30 second increments, stirring in between until melted. Depending on thickness this process may require additional heavy cream and take 2-3 minutes to complete.

Step 4: Once you have created a smooth and melted caramel, it is officially time to dip your apples. Make sure when dipping your apple, you do so at an angle while rotating the apple to cover as much area as possible. Once apple has been coated, place apple in upright position to allow access caramel to drip off. If planning to add a topping, roll wet apple in desired topping before caramel begins to set. When finished adding toppings place apple on baking sheet to allow drying.

Step 5: Repeat this process on desired amount of apples. After completing this process, place baking sheet with apples in refrigerator and allow to cool and set for 30-45 minutes.

Step 6: Enjoy!
