Halloween Tradition | Boo Baskets

Its official – Halloween is upon us! If you are anything like me, that means it’s time to take part in the yearly tradition of creating Boo Baskets! If you’ve never heard of Boo Baskets, no need to worry – I will explain!

What are Halloween Boo Baskets?

Boo Baskets are a fun Halloween tradition that allow you to secretly gift your neighbors and friends with fun Halloween treats. The tradition requires you to create a themed basket a.k.a. a Boo Basket filled with goodies that are meant to be left on the front porch of your neighbor. Once you have left your Boo Basket, that neighbor has officially been “BOOED!” Once your neighbor has been “BOOED!”, it is tradition for them to keep the fun going by creating their own Boo Basket and gifting it to another neighbor. The goal is to gift as many neighbors with a Boo Basket as possible!

A key part of the Boo Basket tradition is making sure that everyone has the opportunity to be “BOOED!” In order for everyone to have a chance at receiving a Boo Basket, a “BOOED!” sign should be hung on the “BOOED!” neighbor’s door notifying other neighbors they have already been “BOOED!” As part of the Boo Basket creation, be sure to include a “BOOED!” sign with directions. You can print a premade “BOOED!” sign Here!

Creating A Boo Basket

Plastic Pumpkin Buckets from Target.

Once you have gathered all of your supplies, it is officially time to create your basket. Creating the basket is the fun part – so get creative with it! In years past, I have created baskets with themes, so keep in mind this is also an option. The only limitation and important thing to consider are food allergies and intolerances, so be mindful of your Boo Basket goodies.

This year I decided to create classic Halloween themed Boo Baskets. I filled each basket with lots of festive items that I was able to pick up from Target. Here is what’s inside:

  • Welches Fruit Snacks
  • Peeps Marshmallow Ghosts
  • Various Halloween Candy
  • Garden Veggie Chips – Ghosts & Bats
  • Mondo Llama Craft Kit
  • Halloween Socks
  • Halloween Stamps

The last and final Boo Basket step – add the premade “BOOED!” sign and directions. Now you are officially ready. Have Fun!

Family Boo Baskets

In addition to neighborhood Boo Baskets, I like to create festive baskets for my daughters. Although I did not use the above baskets for my neighbors, they were perfect for family Boo Baskets. Here is what’s inside:

  • Halloween Buckets with Tops (JoAnn Fabric & Crafts)
  • Peeps Marshmallow Pumpkins (Target)
  • Various Halloween Themed Candy (Target)
  • Favorite Day Pumpkin Spice Hot Coco Bombs (Target)
  • Pumpkin Blanket (Target)
  • Light Up Cat Necklace (Target)
