DIY Valentine’s Day Banner

I recently teamed up with my friend Nicole to brainstorm and create the perfect DIY Valentine’s Day craft that is not only affordable but easy for everyone. Together we were able to create a step-by-step guide for you to follow. So clear off a work space, grab your supplies and let’s get started!

“CRAFT YOUR LOVE INTO EVERYTHING”

Supplies

  • Old Book Pages
  • Scissors
  • Paint Brush
  • Paint
  • Stencil
  • Hot Glue Gun
  • Ribbon

Step 1

First you will need to decide the banner length. Nicole and I decided we wanted to make a banner for my fireplace mantel. In order to cover the span of my mantel – we needed FIVE book pages for our banner. (To give you an idea on the size my mantel is 4’6″)

Step 2

Once you have determined the amount of book pages needed, you can start cutting your banner shape. An easy way to do this is to fold your pages in half and cut diagonally like seen in the image to the right. *Feel free to trim the edges of the pages as needed.

Step 3

After the pages have been cut and trimmed, prepare the pages for painting by placing them on a flat surface.

Step 4

Time to paint! Nicole and I chose to do a heart stencil on our banner. You can use any stencil of your choice. If you’re looking for something simple, the heart stencil is a quick and easy choice that can be made out of construction paper. Once you have decided on your stencil, you will need to firmly place it over the area you wish to paint.

Step 5

Using your stencil, lightly dab your paint color to create your desired image. Be careful not too use too much paint, creating smudges and hard-to-dry globs. Once finished, allow pages to dry prior to adding ribbon.

Step 6

It’s time to add your ribbon! When choosing your ribbon it is important to pick something that can easily be glued to the pages using a hot glue gun. It is also important to measure out the amount of ribbon needed prior to gluing.

Step 7

Using the glue gun, add a small line of glue to the top each page, followed by the ribbon. Be sure to measure out space between each page when gluing your ribbon, this is important if you want to avoid a crooked banner. After you have glued ribbon to each of your pages, allow time for your banner to dry before displaying your final product!

Voila! You have just created your first DIY Valentine’s Day Banner! Congratulations! Now comes the fun part of decorating! Like I said, Nicole and I made our banner for my fireplace mantel, so we made sure to hang it with some of my other Valentine’s Day finds! Keep scrolling to see what we added!
