The Ultimate Weekend Getaway – Deltaville, VA

Whether you’re looking for an easy vacation getaway or somewhere to spend the day – Deltaville offers the perfect setting to do both. I’m often asked – Where is Deltaville? What is there to do there? Well, let me tell ya – Deltaville has become one of my favorite places to spend time. In fact, it is my home away from home. My family and I spend a majority of our summer weekends enjoying our time on the water and all of the other great things Deltaville has to offer.

Below you can find my guide to all things Deltaville with a dash of Deltaville history! So the next time you’re in the area or visiting be sure to check some of these great local spots out! I promise they will not disappoint!

About Deltaville, Va

The charming river town known as The Boating Capital of the Chesapeake can be found nestled in the eastern tip of Middlesex County, Va. The Rappahannock and Piankatank River surround the northern and southern aspects of the town with the Chesapeake Bay located to the east. The town is home to local restaurants, the Deltaville Maritime Museum and marinas galore! During the warmer months you can attend semi-pro baseball games at the historic ballpark – home of the Deltaville Deltas or catch outdoor concerts hosted by the Groovin’ in the Park Concert Series. If a quiet place to relax is what you’re looking for – Deltaville has that too! You can enjoy the peacefulness of the water while enjoying the gorgeous shoreline.

If you’re anything like me – finding fun new places to eat is a must when on vacation. I am not a fan of large chain restaurants and prefer to experience everything an area has to offer – meaning – I love dining at places that offer custom menus with locally-inspired dishes. Check out some of the best local spots below!

DeltaPie

DeltaPie located at 16474 General Puller Hwy offers a “to-go” pizza menu with specialty salads & complimentary foods, such as cheeses, cured meats, spreads, chocolates & dips. You can enjoy your palate-pleasing foods with your choice of beverage, whether it be a seasonally rotated brew or one of the many wine options available. Among the many brew options are imports, micros, domestics & locals. If brews are not your preference – no need to worry. There is a large selection of wines with the option of special orders and requests.

The Table at Wilton

The Table at Wilton is located at 16273 General Puller Hwy and offers a cuisine of homemade recipes with the freshest and finest ingredients. The menu focuses on a wide variety of options for family style dining with a one-of-a-kind cocktail menu. Visiting the area for the weekend? If so, The Table at Wilton has the best brunch in the area! Be sure to enjoy yourself and order the Softshell Crab Benedict with a delicious Bloody Mary.

J&W Seafood

J&W Seafood located at 16552 General Puller Hwy is a gourmet market in the heart of Deltaville. The market offers the freshest Chesapeake Bay Seafood in the area. The market is not only known for its selection in seafood – the gourmet shop has chef-inspired creations and specialty items. J&W Seafood carries platters, gourmet grocery items, craft beer, wine & so much more! Looking to catch your own fresh Chesapeake Bay Seafood? Deltaville Tap & Raw Bar

Deltaville Tap & Raw Bar located at 274 Bucks View Lane offers a unique atmosphere with a waterfront view. The restaurant can easily be accessed by vehicle or boat and offers indoor & outdoor seating. The large indoor bar offers a variety of craft beers, wine & specialty cocktails. If you are looking a for a good time be sure to check out this local spot for live music on Friday nights!

Cafe By The Bay

Cafe By The Bay located at 17435 General Puller Hwy offers breakfast & lunch in a charming coffee shop setting. This cute cafe is the perfect place to catch up with a friend or enjoy a peaceful morning latte. Trying to cool off from hot summer heat? The cafe offers a large variety of ice creams and smoothies to help you do just that! If dining in is not an option, call ahead and grab one of their specialty paninis to go!

Things To Do

Deltaville truly offers a little something for everyone. If you’re a water lover – this is your paradise. You can easily spend your entire vacation enjoying the water and its beautiful shoreline. The surrounding rivers offer a calmness perfect for kayaking, paddle boarding and fishing, whereas if you enjoy boating, jet-skiing and sailing – the bay is the place for you! Not everyone is a water lover, so if spending time on land is more of your thing, Deltaville has plenty of activities to occupy your time. Check out some of my favorite things to do listed below!

Deltaville Maritime Museum & Holly Pointe Nature Park

The Deltaville Maritime Museum & Holly Point Nature Park are great places to visit if you are a historical enthusiast that enjoys nature. The Museum walks you through the history of Deltaville and the shipbuilding industry dating back to the 1800’s. If you rather enjoy your time outside, the Holly Pointe Nature Park offers several trails along the shoreline with a Sculpture Park and Children’s Garden. The museum and nature park is the home to the Groovin’ in the Park Concert Series – a live music event offered every fourth Saturday May – September.

Take Me Out To The Ball Game…

Come out and enjoy a baseball game with the Deltaville Deltas at the historic Deltaville Baseball Park. The all-wooden baseball stadium built in 1948 is one of the last of its kind in the state. The old American pastime can be enjoyed by the entire family with admission prices starting at $6 for adults, $3 for teens and kids 12 and under FREE!

Sailing

When in the area what better way to spend your time than spending it on the water. Sailing is a favorite pastime for many of Deltaville’s visitors. If you’re new to the hobby there’s no need to fret – Deltaville has several great options. Norton Yachts offers lessons for adults to get you started! If your younger ones are interested in getting their sea legs Fishing Bay Yacht Club offers a Junior Sailing Camp during the month of June.

Charter Fishing

Want to experience an up-close scenic view of the Chesapeake Bay while enjoying what the local waters have to offer? Grab your friends and try your luck at catching some of the area’s most popular fish, such as, Flounder, Rockfish, Spot, Croaker, Cobia & Bluefish – to name a few. You can easily charter a private fishing boat for the day or a half day if you prefer. Prices range from $300 – $1850 depending on time and location.
