October here, and I can hardly contain my excitement as I prepare to create my annual couples costume! Halloween, my absolute favorite holiday, brings so much joy and festive fun that I eagerly anticipate every year! Plus, it’s the ideal opportunity for adults to embrace their playful side and dress up. Isn’t that fantastic?

Last year, I embarked on a delightful journey to transform my husband and myself into two beloved characters from one of my favorite childhood movies – Mary Poppins! With just a few budget-friendly purchases and a sprinkle of creativity, we joyfully became Mary Poppins and Bert. Take a look at our enchanting costumes below!

Creating Mary Poppins and Bert

Once you have gathered your accessories you can easily create your look in a matter of minutes. Here is how we did it…

MARY POPPINS

1. Apply red flower tops to black hat brim using a glue gun.
2. After dressing in a plain white button up and a black skirt, add a red bow tie and belt. You can purchase these items or create them on your own. I used satin ribbon to create my belt shown in the picture.
3. Complete the Mary Poppins look by placing your hair in a low bun with a bright red lip.
4. Lastly, add white gloves, a purse, and an umbrella. And just like that you are officially SUPERCALIFRAGILISTICEXPIALIDOCIOUS!

BERT

1. Dress in grey button up and black jeans.
2. Add black or grey paperboy hat.
3. Tie red bandana around neck.
4. Complete look with black shoes and black or grey vest.
5. Lastly, add black make up to face to portray soot and carry a black chimney sweeping broom. You can purchase a chimney sweeping broom or create your own with a standard broom and black spray paint. And just like that you are officially CHIM CHIM CHER-EE!
