Decor | Create A Fall Porch in 3 Easy Steps

The scent of fall is in the air, the leaves are changing, and pumpkins are starting to show up on every store shelf. It is officially time to decorate and there is no better place to start than your front porch! Let me help you create a decorative and welcoming front porch that you can easily transform as the season progresses. It’s easy, I promise!

Step 1: Pick a Theme

Before you start decorating you need to decide on a theme. Personally, I love to create classic fall spaces that can easily carry over into Halloween and Thanksgiving. So for me, it’s all about finding the classics, like pumpkins, bales of hay, and Mums. I have found that it is easier to add and remove items to create a new space than it is to continuously start from scratch.

Step 2: Find Decor

Once you have decided on a theme you can start gathering your decor. Last year I decided on a traditional fall-themed porch that could easily be used during Halloween and Thanksgiving with a few easy updates. I was able to find great decor at Wayfair, Walmart, and Kirkland’s to go along with my local farmer’s market pumpkins and Mums. Other great places to find fall decor are Target, Hobby Lobby, and Home Goods. I also encourage people to shop local, you can find some amazing decor items at small local stores that are unique additions to any seasonal display.

Step 3: Decorate

Once you have collected the decor you plan to use, it is officially time to start staging your items. Keep in mind this process is forever evolving, so be open to moving things around and changing it up as you go. Remember, nothing is set in stone. Be creative! To help bring your vision to life, use items you already have. You will be surprised what an old bench, rocking chair, or wagon can add to a display, not to mention, it will save you money!

Looking for ideas or inspiration? Take a peek at my porch from last year!

Last year I created a traditional fall-themed porch with lots of pumpkins, Mums, and bales of hay. As Halloween grew closer I was able to easily update the space with skeletons for the perfect amount of spooky! To give the porch display dimension, I used a pair of old wooden rocking chairs that I already owned. A quick coat of orange paint and they were the perfect addition. I replaced our summer flowers with large Mums on both sides of our front door to add a little symmetry. Small bales of hay are perfect adding height to any fall display. In my case, the bales of hay were great for my various pumpkins. Speaking of pumpkins, you can NEVER have too many, so feel free to load up on as many pumpkins as you can! If you are able, and you have a ton of pumpkins, a great way to use them is to decorate the stairs by trickling pumpkins of various sizes and colors down each step.

The entire process of decorating the porch was quick and easy, something you too can create and accomplish! If you are looking to create a porch similar to the one I created, I have linked some of the decor HERE! Follow me on Instagram (@Cammie804) for this year’s porch theme!
